INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGY INTO EFL CLASSES: THE SAMR MODEL

The aim of this workshop is to discover SAMR model of technology integration in language classrooms. The participants should have their mobile devices such as laptops and smart phones or tablets. Internet connection is another requirement for this workshop. Please make sure you have an active internet connection and a fully charged mobile device to get the best of this workshop. The number of participants is limited to 20.
Prof. Dr. Meltem Huri Baturay
Prof. Dr. Meltem Huri Baturay has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English Language Teaching. She got her PhD degree in the field of Computer Education and Instructional Technology. She studies on distance education, digital game, internet and social media addiction, and technology-assisted language teaching. Cyberloafing, MOOCs and Z generation learners are some of the other research topics Baturay studies on. She has published articles in highly reputable international and SCCI indexed journals. Baturay has also worked as a researcher at an action in COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) which is supported by the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020. She also participated in TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) and Erasmus+ KA2 projects as a researcher. She has expertise in multimedia supported and video-based training materials development. Currently, she is working as a faculty member and the vice-director of the School of Foreign Languages at Atılım University.
Merve AYDIN
Having received her B.A. in Foreign Language Teaching from Middle East Technical University in 2010, Merve Aydın has never stopped being a life-long learner. She continues her studies with an MA degree in English Language Teaching at Ufuk University. She has worked with adults and tertiary level English learners since 2011 at various educational institutions. She is currently working as an English Instructor at Atılım University, School of Foreign Languages. Her research interest are integrating technology in ELT and Gamification. She has previously delivered a workshop on integrating new technologies and apps for differentiated instruction at a follow-on program of ETZ Academy Technology Training for English Language Teaching Professionals.

Dr. Donald Staub Izmir University of Economics
School of Foreign Language
Donald Staub is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the School of Foreign Languages at Izmir University of Economics in Izmir, Turkey. He also served for four years as the coordinator of the Quality Assurance Unit within the School of Foreign Languages at Isik University (Istanbul), where he served as the chair for the SFL’s two accreditation applications. Donald has a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University (EMU), and an MA (TESOL) and BA (Literature) from Michigan State University. Dr. Staub is a trained CEA reviewer and has significant accreditation experience in working with institutions that have been accredited by NCA, SACS, and CAEP. His primary research interests lie in EFL quality assurance, student retention, and delivery of English medium instruction, and he has recent book chapters on quality assurance in EFL programs as well as quality assurance in ESP programs. He is currently editing a book (Springer, 2019) that explores quality assurance and accreditation in foreign language programs.
